Challenge
The PODS Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, develops and enhances pipeline data standards to support efficient asset management and reporting for the global oil and gas industry. The Association identified the need to transform its standards to meet new requirements, support modern technology solutions, and apply latest standards best practices to add value to oil and gas pipeline operating companies.
Solution and Outcome
PODS required the services of an external consultant to advise and guide its standards transformation effort. Mr. Feinberg provided strategic advisory consulting services to the PODS Executive Director, Board of Directors, Technical Committee for Governance and Working Groups to facilitate the association’s "Next Gen" standards transformation activities. As a result, the PODS Association had a proven, low-risk approach to transform its service offerings.
Project Activities and Deliverables
Facilitated workshops with the PODS Board of Directors, Governance and Working Groups to establish organizational vision and mission, identify and prioritize strategic objectives, and establish measurable performance indicators.
Led development of the PODS Association 2016-2109 Strategic Plan, establishing strategic goals addressing the organization's products, services, and strategies.
Prepared RACI chart, communicating stakeholder and organizational roles, including who is responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed for each step of the transformation and governance process.
Recommended modernized standards governance procedures including definition of objectives for transformed standards, methods for standards development, vetting and communication, change management, cultural adoption, and risk management.
Contributed to transformed PODS pipeline database modeling, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Contributed to scope and schedule development, white papers, and standards documentation.
Participated in PODS intergovernmental affairs activities and collaboration with other industry associations.
Authored white papers, FAQ and other communications describing the transformation approach to Association members and other stakeholders.
Presented standards transformation strategy, approach, and progress at conferences on behalf of the PODS Association leadership.
